Airlines enter USD22.260 million in 2011 for additional services

A study by consultancy specializing in the area of complementary services in the aviation sector, IdeaWorksCompany, and Amadeus yielded the result that additional service revenue of the airlines have grown to USD22.260.600 million during 2011 and increased by 66 % in two years.

The ‘Top 5’ of the airlines ‘leaders’ in ancillary revenue in 2010 and 2011 is made up of United Continental Airlines, Delta Airlines, American Airlines, Qantas Airways and Southwest.

EasyJet, Ryanair, U.S. Airways, TAM Airlines, and Alaska Air Group, are the other five companies that are part of the ‘Top 10’ of the best airlines in revenue for such services, and together, all achieved higher income to U.S. $ 16,646 million, 75% of the total amount recorded in 2011.

As reported europapress, the next wave of innovation will come from additional services airlines setting up new products that support your brand positioning and attractive to the traveler, «said the director of Amadeus distribution, Holger Taubmann.

«We are working with the 46 airlines that have hired our solution ‘Amadeus Ancillary Services’ to provide an offer that will customize the travel experience and provide new revenue streams now and in the future,» added Taubmann.

IdeaWorksCompany has conducted this study after analyzing the financial information recorded by 108 airlines around the world, 50 of which break down the activity of complementary services.
